Modern slaughterhouse launched in Tiruchi

A modern slaughter house, built at a cost of Rs.82.40 lakh at G.Corner in the City, was declared open by Transport Minister K. N. Nehru here on Saturday.

All unauthorised abattoirs functioning in the Marsinghpet area near Bheema Nagar would be shifted to the modern slaughter house, which includes an effluent treatment plant (ETP). ISO 9001:2008 certification has also been obtained for the facility from Guardian Independent Certification.

The slaughterhouse would be exclusively for beef vendors. It would have a capacity to handle about 50 to 100 animals a day. All animals were to be brought to the abattoir and the beef would be screened and certified by veterinarians. A cattle shed has also been provided at the site. The Corporation has planned a separate slaughter house, also with an ETP, near the Gandhi Market for mutton vendors.
