TIRUCHI: Tiruchi Corporation has begun preliminary works on laying a Rs.3.2-crore inner road linking Anna Nagar Main Road with the MGR Statue near Cantonment.
Work on forming a kutcha road behind the District Court Complex began a few days ago after the Corporation obtained the ‘enter upon permission,’ Corporation Commissioner T.T.Balsamy told The Hindu. The Corporation would raise a compound wall for the complex as part of a land transfer agreement.
However, the transfer of government land (part of the complex) and acquisition of some private land are yet to be completed.
Corporation officials expect the process to be completed soon.
The new road would be laid utilising a grant of Rs.1.2 crore from the Seed Capital Assistance Scheme of the Department of Town and Country Planning. The Corporation would raise Rs.1.20 crore by way of loans and contribute Rs.80 lakh.
The link road was originally proposed as part of the Karur Bypass Road, laid over a decade back. It would provide an important link across the Uyyakondan river which runs across the city and ease the congestion in Thillai Nagar and Woraiyur areas.
A bridge would be constructed across the river to connect the Anna Nagar Main Road and Cantonment as part of the link road.
