TIRUCHI: Nine agricultural consultation-cum-service centres or agri-clinics, sanctioned under a subsidy-based component of the National Agriculture Development Programme (NADP), have been established in Tiruchi district.
These were among the 14 agri-clinics sanctioned for the district – one each for a block. The agri-clinics would provide expert service and advice to farmers on cropping patterns, technology dissemination, crop protection from pests and diseases, market trends and clinical services.
The clinics were being established by training unemployed youth, who were also extended bank loans for the projects. They would also serve as distribution centres for fertilizer, pesticides, micro irrigation equipment and certified seeds.
They would also function as mini soil testing laboratories. The scheme envisages integration of all agriculture related services and make them available to farmers under a single roof.
