Retiring rooms in Tiruchi Junction, a big hit

TIRUCHI: The renovated retiring rooms at Tiruchi Railway Junction have proved a big hit with the travelling public. This is despite the recent upward revision of tariff by the Railways.

Of the total 19 retiring rooms available on the sprawling first floor of the Junction, two are air-conditioned deluxe rooms, two air-conditioned rooms and the rest non air-conditioned rooms. All these rooms were renovated at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh recently. The renovation project included provision of new furniture and other facilities for these rooms.

The railway junction till recently had only non air-conditioned dormitory facility. Now it has established an air-conditioned dormitory much to the joy of the commuters. The air-conditioned and non air-conditioned dormitories comprise eight beds and nine beds respectively.

Tariffs

According to railway sources, the tariff for the air-conditioned deluxe room is Rs. 1,000 per day (24 hours) and for the air-conditioned ordinary room is Rs. 700. The Railways has fixed a tariff of Rs. 500 for the non air-conditioned rooms.

The tariff for a bed in the air-conditioned dormitory is Rs. 250 for 24 hours and in the non air-conditioned dormitory is Rs. 125. The air-conditioned dormitory has the facility of individual door for each bed, which the occupants can lock on their own.

The above tariff is only for the first 24 hours stay. There will be an increase of 25 per cent in the tariff for the second day and another 25 per cent increase on the second day’s tariff for the subsequent 24 hours.

The Railways hiked the tariff after the renovation works were completed. While the tariff for the non air-conditioned room has been increased from Rs. 200 to Rs. 500, the tariff for the air-conditioned room has been increased from Rs. 350 to Rs. 700. The tariff for the beds available in the dormitory has been doubled now.

Despite the steep increase in the tariff, there is always good demand for this facility, the sources added.
