TIRUCHI: The voter strength in the Tiruchi Lok Sabha constituency has come down to 10.53 lakh from about 11.91 lakh in 2004.
There have been substantial changes in the boundaries of the Tiruchi Lok Sabha constituency after the recent delimitation exercise. The constituency will cover six Assembly segments of Srirangam, Tiruchi (West), Tiruchi (East), Tiruverambur, Gandharvakottai (SC) and Pudukottai. The addition of Gandharvakottai and Pudukottai segments would make for a significant change as the constituency would be spread over a vast area.
During 2004, the Assembly segments of Tiruchi I, Tiruchi-II, Srirangam, Tiruverambur, Lalgudi and Musiri were under the Tiruchi Parliamentary constituency. (Tiruchi-I and Tiruchi-II have been renamed as Tiruchi East and Tiruchi West respectively and the boundaries of the Assembly segments have also been redrawn).
Four Assembly segments _ Lalgudi, Manachanallur, Musiri and Thuraiyur (SC) _ will now come under the Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency while the Manapparai segment will be under the Karur constituency. (The Marungapuri, Thottiyam and Uppilliyapuram (ST) segments in the district have been abolished.)
According to latest figures furnished by the district officials, the Tiruchi LS constituency has 5,27,416 female and 5,25,904 male voters, making for a total voter strength of 10,53,320.
Srirangam will be the biggest Assembly segment in terms of voter strength.
The segment has 2,09,943 voters, followed by Tiruverambur – 1,90,856, Tiruchi West – 1,81,326, Tiruchi East – 1,78,888, Pudukottai – 1,53,454 and Gandharvakottai – 1,38,853 voters.
