Battery car for disabled launched

TIRUCHI: A new battery car facility for the benefit of the physically challenged, senior citizens and sick commuters has been introduced in Tiruchi Junction. The four-seater is sponsored by Airtel and will be maintained by Srishti Communications.

Third in State

Tiruchi Junction is the third railway station in Tamil Nadu to get this free facility after Chennai Central (two cars) and Chennai Egmore (one).

The highlight is that a driver with mobile phone (No: 96779 56789) will be available. The car is noise and pollution-free and has adequate baggage space . The revenue generated through advertisement on the car will be used for its maintenance.

Speaking at a brief function on Wednesday to launch the facility, Divisional Railway Manager S. Subramhanyan said that Airtel and Srishti Communications had made corporate social responsibility a reality.

Useful for pilgrims

Tiruchi and neighbouring districts account for various pilgrim centres and a large number of devotees from across the country, including senior citizens, visit them round the year. This facility will be of immense help to them.

While thanking the Airtel for its gesture, Mr. Subramhanyan pleaded for introduction of the facility in other major junctionsin the division.
