CII plan for central TN

TIRUCHI: To create conditions for inclusive growth, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Tiruchi zone, has chosen the theme: ‘Developing Central Tamil Nadu – HUB Tiruchi’ for 2009-2010, putting in place a plan of action to leverage the inherent potentials of the neighbouring districts as well in the areas of industry, agriculture and education.

Having witnessed the steady progress of its activities at Karur through the district office it started in 2006, the CII-Tiruchi Zone has plans to start a similar office in Pudukkottai, Perambalur or Thanjavur this year.

The zone will also work in close coordination with industry associations like Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries’ Association and BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited) Small Industries Association to get a permanent trade fair established in Tiruchi.

The membership will be increased from 196, including 94 in Karur, to over 250 during the year, Leo Ananth, Chairman of the Zone, who has assumed charge along with S. Gopinath, General Manager – Operations, BHEL, Tiruchi, as Vice-Chairman, said, addressing a press conference on Tuesday.

There are tremendous opportunities in Central Tamil Nadu in the sectors like energy equipment, home textiles, education and healthcare that have to be leveraged strategically for the State’s growth.

The focus areas of the zone encompass identifying untapped business potential and initiating developmental processes; carrying out skill development initiatives for better utilisation of human resource; infusing innovation into heavy fabrication and engineering industry, tourism, infrastructure and IT/ITES; and providing technical, financial management and marketing support to farmers, Mr. Anand said, adding that Agricon 2009 slated for November is one such. Eight panels have been formed for work for systematic progress in manufacturing, MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), healthcare, education and skill development, tourism and hospitality, economic affairs and taxation, and rural development, he said.
