The processional idols of Sri Tayumanaswamy and Sri Mattuvarkuzhalammai were brought to the cars in the morning where special religious rituals were performed.

Amidst religious fervour, devotees pulled the cars at about 6-20 a.m. through the East Andar street; Chinna Kadai; NSB Road; Nandikovil street and North Andar street. The cars were brought to rest three hours later.

The temple authorities, in co-ordination with the police department, had made elaborate bandobust arrangements, including clearing of encroachments, for the smooth conduct of the festival.

The car festival forms the ninth day rituals of the fortnight festival.

The ‘Chithrai’ car festival signifies the important legends associated with the temple.
