Before ADMK left Trichy constituency to CPI(M), there was a news that ADMK was searching an "equally" powerful person for Mr.Azhagiri standing in Trichy for DMK. ADMK official O Panneerselvam was assigned the job of convincing Mr. P Palanichamy, PRP Granites and Exports owner.

However, looks like Mr. P Palanichamy did not agree to contest in the election for some reason!

PRP Exports is headed by Mr.P. Palanichamy, a veteran in the field known for his extensive knowledge on granites. He is ably assisted and supported by Mr.P.Senthil Kumar, Mr.P. Suresh Kumar and Mr.K. Murugesan as the pillars of M/s PRP Exports.

Ponnuswamy Mohan (born 30 December 1949) is a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Trichy constituency of Tamil Nadu and is a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) political party.

He was born in Sholavanthan, Trichy. He had completed BA in Educated at American College, Trichy (Tamil Nadu).

Member, State Committee, C.P.I. (M), Tamil Nadu ( ) , Member, District Secretariat, C.P.I. (M), Trichy, Tamil Nadu ( ) , Elected to 13th Lok Sabha( 1999) , Re-elected to 14 Lok Sabha (2nd term)( 2004) , Member, Committee on Urban Development( ) , Member, Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas( 5 Aug. 2007 onwards).

Mohan Ponnuswamy had won two times for Lok Sabha from 1999. This year's election is going to be tough, because DMK candidate is a powerful man Mr.Azhagiri, with strength in Trichy and south tamil nadu districts and with family connections in the State and party connections in Central Government.

Overall, all we want is good stuff for Trichy. It does not matter whoever comes into power. All the Best and Good luck for every candidate in Trichy.

Let us have Trichy's voice heard in India and let it become a recognizable point in world map, in addition to its tourism significance.

MG Ramachandran - MGR Trichy

Remembering the late Tamil Nadu leader MG Ramachandran on his birthday.

Maruthur Gopala Ramachandran (Tamil: மருதூர் கோபால இராமச்சந்திரன்; Malayalam: മരുതൂര് ഗോപാല രാമചന്ദ്രന്) (January 17, 1917 – December 24, 1987), popularly known as M. G. R. (Tamil: எம்.ஜி.ஆர்; Malayalam: എം.ജി.ആര്) or Puratchi Thalaivar (Tamil: புரட்சி தலைவர்; English: Revolutionary Leader), was a Tamil film actor and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1977 until his death.

The magical word MGR had unprecedented mass appeal in Tamil Nadu though he was not a Tamilian by birth. He was the uncrowned king of all spheres he touched and his political appeal had rocked even the rulers at the centre in New Delhi. He identified himself with the poor masses and tried his best to live up to their aspirations. Here is a man whose cult image will stay for ever in India and especially in Tamil Nadu where he is treated as a demigod even today and influence the politics. MGR was above board during his rule, a rare quality among the politicians and certainly lives forever in the hearts of 100 million Tamils spread all over the world, though his name is synonymous even today with thrills and action in movies in entire southern India.

We need such leaders for another revolution. He is notably remembered for his free meals at school programme.

Veerapandia Kattabomman - South of Trichy - Birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY for the late but LEGEND VEERAPANDIA KATTABOMMAN - Jan 3rd!!!!

The struggle for freedom from the British, saw the emergence of many patriots who fought, made sacrifices and even lost their lives defending the country. Exhibiting great courage, Tamils were among those who sowed the seeds for the freedom movement. One such pioneer was Veerapandiya Kattabomman.

Eighteen kilometres north west of Tirunelveli lies the hamlet of Panchalankurichi, a place of historical significance. The chieftains ruling Panchalankurichi put up stiff resistance against the British East India Company, between 1798 and 1801.

Veerapandiya Kattabomman was a fearless chieftain who refused to bow down to the demands of the British for agricultural tax on native land, a brave warrior who laid down his life for his motherland. The fight he launched in Panchalankurichi has been hailed as the inspiration behind the first battle of independence of 1857, which the British called the Sepoy Mutiny.

Azhagiya Veerapandiapuram (Ottapidaram of today) was ruled by Jagaveera Pandiyan. He had a minister Bommu who had migrated from Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu who was a brave warrior. He was known as Gettibommu in Telugu to describe his strength and fighting qualities. This, over a period of time, became Kattabomman in Tamil. Kattabomman ascended the throne after Jagaveera Pandiyan, who had no issue, and later came to be known as Adi Kattabomman, the first of the clan of Kattabomman.

Legend has it that during a hunting trip into the forests of Salikulam (close to Azhagiya Pandiyapuram) Kattabomman watched the spectacle of a hare chasing seven hounds. Kattabomman was amazed at this miracle. Believing that the land possessed great powers that could instil courage in people, he built his fort there and named it Panchalankurichi.

Born in this clan of Adi Kattabomman was Veerapandiyan on January 3, 1760 – the 47th king of Panchalankurichi – to Jagaveera Kattabomman and Arumugathammal. He had two younger brothers Dalavai Kumarasami and Duraisingam. Veerapandiyan was fondly called ‘Karuthaiah’ (the black prince), and Dalavai Kumarasami, ‘Sivathaiah’ (the white prince). Duraisingam, a good orator, earned the sobriquet ‘Oomaidurai’, which actually meant the very opposite – the dumb prince.

Cognizant Technologies Solution (CTS) coming to Trichy: NASSCOM Chairman: Trichy Potential

Lakshmi Narayanan, Cognizant’s Vice-Chairman, said that the temple city 'Trichy' will be in its radar to expand the operations of the software firm. Mr.Narayanan who is also serving as the chairman of NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies) came to Trichy to commence the competitions organised by the Thiagarajar College of Engineering for the school students. While replying for a question, he said that he will not comment on the name of the cities in which Cognizant is going to expand but it had shortlisted five cities for its future operations and Trichy is one of them.

I am very excited and was stunned to read the profile of Karumuttu Thiaragarajan Chettiar, founder of Thiagarajar Mills, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Trichy etc.,'s profile in wikipedia. It highly impresses me and inspires me.

He was the tenth and last child in his family. He was educated at St Thomas' College, Sri Lanka.

He took an active part in the struggle for Indian Independence. He founded fourteen textile mills, nineteen educational institutions, the Bank of Madura, and the Trichy Insurance Company. He also published for a number of years a daily called 'Tamil Nadu Daily'He named his tamil daily before Government of Madras named it as Tamilnadu.

Nakkeerar - Trichy Profile

Lord Shiva performed "Thiruvilayadals" for poets who prayed to him for succour. Once the Pandiyan king had a doubt as to whether the scent from a woman's hair was natural or artificial. He announced a price of 1000 gold coins for anyone who clear his doubt. A poor poet named Tharumi prayed to Lord Shiva to make him get the award. The Lord gave a poem to the poet and asked him to take it to the King. When this poem was read in the court, Poet Nakkeerar found fault with it and stopped the giving od the prize. Alas! Tharumi's grief grew and he again appealed to the Lord. He said he was not for not receiving the prize but he could not bear anyone finding fault with the Lord's poems.

Thereupon, Lord Shiva himself came to the court and challenged Nakkeerar. But Nakkeerar could not be cowed down. Though the divine poet asked him if the hair of Ganapoongodai,the consort of Lord Kalathinathar,whom Nakkeerar worshipped ,did not have the natural scent,the undaunted Nakkeerar asserted that it was so.

Suddenly the Lord opened the eye in his forehead (Netrikkan) which emitted fire and looked at Nakkeerar to show the poet who he was. Even then, Nakkeerar persisted in his statement. As he could not bear the scorching heat, emanating from the divine eye he jumped into the water of the Golden Lotus Tank. Then at the request of the other poets, the Lord took Nakkeerar out of the tank, forgave him and made him study under 'Agasthiar', the tamil Sage.

Muthuvel Karunanidhi Azhagiri, generally known as M. K. Azhagiri, Trichy, is an Indian politician. The elder son of the head of the Dravida Munnetra Kazagham, Karunanidhi, he is a candidate to succeed him as party president.

It is being said that - following clashes between the supporters of M. K. Stalin and M. K. Azhagiri, he was sent to manage the party in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu from Trichy, while M. K. Stalin was retained in Chennai to manage the party in the northern districts.

M.K.Azhagiri has two daughters and one son. He lives in Trichy.
