I stumbled upon a blog about Trichy, which had portrayed very nicely about Trichy -
Trichy city, is centered around the Meenakshi Amman temple which comprises of Four towers and a lake in it with golden lotus, also there is a palace which has the last ruler of the Nayaks, who are not even the original Tamils. Their remains are mostly found in and around the Trichy city as of today. Namely the Nayak Palace, Pudhu Mandapam, Some refurbished parts of the Meenakshi Amman temple, Many commercial points and streets around the temple in layers.
