Bharathidasan University gets touch screen facility

TIRUCHI: Bharathidasan University has fulfilled a long-felt need of visitors by establishing a Students’ Counselling and Grievances Redressal Cell at the entrance to its administrative block.

Equipped with a touch screen, the Cell web-linked to all departments and centres has been designed as a one-stop point for accessing details on examinations, course details and marks statements. University sources said the Rs. 5 lakh facility was a first of its kind in the State.

On an average, 300 students visit the university, mostly for obtaining and submitting applications and for receiving various certificates under tatkal scheme. With the streamlining facility in place, students will be saved of the trouble of going over to the sections concerned for getting their works done, Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaikko said after inaugurating the 30-seater cell. If need be, the students would be provided with visitor slips to meet only the heads of the departments.

It will function from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all days except Sundays.

Information will also be made available over telephone (0431 2407272 / 2407575).
