BHEL rallies for road safety

TIRUCHI: A road safety rally was organised by the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) near here recently. The BHEL arranged the event as part of National Safety Day celebration, ‘SAFEST 2009,’ involving trade union functionaries, security personnel, safety stewards, safety coordinators, traffic wardens, welfare stewards, medical team, home guards, NCC cadets, police and the public.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tiruverambur, V. Subramanian, flagged off the rally in the presence of BHEL officials. Presiding over the function,

A. Chandrababu, General Manager (Outsourcing), BHEL, said that while ensuring safety at workplace, one should not ignore aspects of road safety.

People should wear helmets while riding two-wheelers, seat belts while driving cars and desist from over speeding to avoid road accidents, he said. S. Gopinath, General Manager (Operations-Boiler Shops) pasted bull’s eye stickers on the headlights of vehicles.

T. Anandan, General Manager (Human Resource), stuck safety slogans on the vehicles and P. Nainar, General Manager (M andS, Civil and Safety) fixed reflecting stickers on the rear side of vehicles.
