International Airport Status for Trichy

The Airports Authorities of India was giving 'lame excuses' to not notify Trichy Airport as an international airport, despite it having all facilities for landing A-320 aircraft, T Kannan, Chairman of SPEED (Southern Prosperity Through enhanced Economic Development), 2008.

Talking to PTI along with R Dinesh, Chairman of CII and Joint Managing Director of T V Sundaram Iyengar and sons ltd said, he said airports having similar infrastructure like Tiruchirapalli and Coimbatore had been declared International airports long ago.

  1. Tamil Nadu should take control of its own airports instead of leaving it upto the Central govt and "AAI". If Centre controls Tamil Nadu's airports, one can forget Trichy being an international airport. Tamil Nadu should control its own airports and launch its own state level airline.
